AV out ports

Digital cameras will have A/V Out ports that allow connecting to computers for transfer of data. The USB socket may differ between cameras. You should have a connecting cable that fits - one came with your camera. If not, they are quite common so a visit to your electronics store could be in order

connect camera to computer Match up the plugs and sockets while the camera is OFF.
After connecting, turn the camera on and your computer should recognize the camera as another hard drive.

Illustration 002-4 - Card Reader

card reader

A card reader will allow plugging the card into the reader and connecting to your computer.

Card readers are common and inexpensive. You can likely find one even at your local drug store photo department.

connect card reader

The card will only fit one way in the reader, so don't force it.
The reader connects to the computer the same way as a camera.
Once connected, the card becomes a removable hard drive and you can be read AND write files onto the card.

Advantages? -- you can also use the card to transport files between computers - even use the card as a removeable memory to supply files to a digital picture frame.
If you have a second card, you can even keep taking picts while this card is being used.
